Didn't think I'd have to write two obits today :*( I'm
in a bit of shock about this, as Waz was a bit of a
heart rat to say the least. He was from the only litter
Emma J had, with a girl we bred (Skye) and our boy Hobo.
Hobo is still going strong at well gone two... sadly
none of his babies from Emma's litter are still with us.
There were only 3, we had 2 of them, and Emma kept the
3rd. Cletus passed on a while ago - and now Waz, who
would have been 2 in just over 2 months.
Waz was a fantastic boy - and lived to a good age
considering we're pretty sure he wasn't just a Russian
Silver, more likely that he was a Russian Lavender. I
was surprised that he lived as long as he did. He was
doing very well until recently - when he developed a
nasty abscess on the site of a small cut on his face. It
had started to heal well... we did our best for him, but
it was just too much and he was too old to deal with it.
:*( Despite lots of extra feeding and meds, he still
lost weight, and I think tonight his kidneys may have
failed him, and he basically died in our arms.
He was such a special boy - a real heart rat... and one
of the most striking Russian Silvers I'd seen, with his
very pale coat (the Mink I suppose). He was so friendly
and loving, and right up until this evening, he was
still the first at the bars, fussing for attention and
to be held.
I don't quite know what I'll do without him - I never
did manage to get a litter out of either him or his
brother Cletus - though Nicola had a litter with Cletus
(well - Arianwen did hehe)... Perhaps one day I'll have
something descended from him - if Phil and Sue are still
working with them. :)
I miss him so much already though - he had such a grip
on my heart - and was so special to us both... :( :'(
and it just isn't right him not being there...
especially when his (admittedly Methuselahesque) father
is still going so strong. He will be so sadly missed - I
think especially by Troll - as they had become very
close...
Run free you stunning old chap - you were always too
good for this world. Go and find your lovely brother and
sister, and give them cuddles from me - I miss you so
much... :*(
For him this song... not easily chosen... but mainly
because he's a lavender - and Burl Ives has such a
beautiful voice :*)
Burl Ives - Lavender's Blue (Dilly Dilly) -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcvQcPatQdQ - Lyrics
are different - but the below are actually more fitting.
Lavender's blue, dilly dilly,
Lavender's green
When you are King, dilly dilly,
I shall be Queen
Who told you so, dilly dilly,
Who told you so?
'Twas my own heart, dilly dilly,
That told me so
Call up your friends, dilly, dilly
Set them to work
Some to the plough, dilly dilly,
Some to the fork
Some to the hay, dilly dilly,
Some to thresh corn
Whilst you and I, dilly dilly,
Keep ourselves warm
Lavender's blue, dilly dilly,
Lavender's green
When you are King, dilly dilly,
I shall be Queen
Who told you so, dilly dilly,
Who told you so?
'Twas my own heart, dilly dilly,
That told me so
Run free my handsome king...
