Very sadly we had Princess put to sleep today. :*( This was made doubly hard by the fact that she was such a bouncy madam, and was still really active and alert and happy :( Sadly Princess had a prolapsed vagina a couple of weeks ago. We had it stitched back in - but sadly tonight it came back out :( There was nothing more we could do for her, so we rushed her to the vet, who agreed to put her to sleep. She was obviously in some pain as well, despite metacam - so although having her put to sleep felt so very very wrong, we know it was right for her.
Princess was a mad licky little girl, one of the friendliest rats we've ever owned - even though she'd always been ill. She became quite ill with respiratory problems at about 3 and a half months old - and had these on and off throughout her life. This never stopped her being life and soul of the party though. She was the silliest, gentlest, lickiest thing! She loved nothing more than a good old scritch, while she sat washing your hand from front to back. :*) She really had such a winning personality, everyone who met her loved her dearly, and she was just one of those rats that wouldn't be ignored, that loved human attention more than anything else.
She leaves behind sister Moon, and cagemates Peaches, Pam, Jemi and Desi. They will miss her a lot - especially Moon :(
