Lance Longthorne
It's a terrible shame and I'm sorry it took me so long to
write this, but it's been hard.
Poor Lance was battling with illness for a long time and we took him to the vet and he told us it would be kindest to put him to sleep as he had no lease of life, he had a nasty tumour (though it wasn't huge by all accounts) and he had lost the use of his back legs. The vet seemed to think it was neurological damage, which was affecting his back end. He was incontinent as well, and really struggling just to get around. Sometimes he wouldn't know where he was and look around all disorientated and lost, and it was so pitiful, and it made me cry... I knew it was for the best to let him go. It was a very pleasant ending for him, much dignity and gentleness involved. He didn't have gas, but the injection was completely painless. he even boggled and bruxed in Karl's arms immediately afterwards. He drifted peacefully off, and I had never seen him look so relaxed which was a huge relief, as some of you know I have been panicking about the injection for ages. Anyway, we stroked him the whole time until he passed on, and Mr Roberts was brilliant, and let it take about 20 mins to half an hour, so it wasn't rushed and painful. Lance died happy, and that meant a lot. He even waved as he went out... I know it was just muscle spasms, but it felt like a wave... It cut me up for a few days, and I wondered if i did the right thing, but there was no other choice really, and I am sure lance is thanking us at the rainbow bridge... Thank you for so many happy months old boy, and don't play too hard... you'll do yourself an injury!
