Genetics to knowledge: aa Rbrb (possibly carrying mink, British blue and pink eye)Despite the joy of doing so well at Cardiff show today - we realised that we had to come back down with a bump :( the weekend wasn't al fun - sadly we had to let our gorgeous Betty go on Friday. :'(
Nicola very kindly drove Karl and I down to Kent to Ann's house in earlyish 2007 to pick up Betty, her sister Joy and a buck called Savannah. These were to help out our silver line - but sadly, none of them wanted to work for us - fortunately we did end up with Savannah's brother Zeus, but that's a different story.
Betty was always the cuddly sister. She was bigger, and had the most appealing face. She was just such a soppy pet - and did well in pet classes while she was with us too - and I believe she did very well in varieties while she still lived with Ann. She was one of those quiet, soft girls, who just takes hold of you - and you don't know it, until they're gone :'(
Betty developed a facial abscess... and despite our best efforts, antibiotics, constant flushing, draining, cleaning... it never got better - in fact got significantly worse - and life was just horrid for her :( She was very uncomfortable, so we did the kindest thing for her. It was so hard as she was so bright and lively, even through her discomfort.
Sadly, Joy is missing her so much, I don't know how she'll cope :( She seems lost.
Betty really was a fabulous special doe - and we can only thank Ann for letting us have her and her sister. Now we only have one Rivendell rat left - and that just won't do :(
Run free you beautiful, cuddly, special girl... hopefully you're free of lumpy face pain now :(
and a song for her... maybe not sentimental - but of course, it's her song, and will always remind me of her gorgeous self.
