My gorgeous girl Varm has gone...

Varm was a very dear girl to me, one of my much loved Silver does, absolutely beautiful, and with a temperament to die for. She was always a quiet and gentle soul, never caused a fuss with other rats really, intro'd easily, and loved people. She was a real ambassador for rat kind, and I'm desperately sad to have lost her :*( she was too young really, and although I was expecting it, with her starting to show signs of CK, and also a facial abscess she developed about 2 days ago... it's still a bit of a shock. Still, I guess she made it to 20 months, and although it's certainly not good, it's a lot better than it could be for us right now, so I should be a bit grateful for that.

Varm gave us a wonderful litter, who we are very grateful for, although we only bred from Eli. He's so like her too, in so many ways, like a man-Varm <3 a wonderful gentle lad, but butch in looks. She in turn was like her much loved mum, Ice - who was just wonderful. I'm sure Varm will be with her again now, playing and keeping her company <3 :*)

She also features (with son Eli) in one of my favourite ever rat photos <3:

Run free lovely girl, go and find Bhoot, Toshio, Nitty and Captain Transvestite - your children, all taken far far too soon :*(

Sail on Silver girl...

A couple of songs for my lovely girl...

Moonlight In Vermont - as sung by Ray Charles:

Pennies in a stream
Falling leaves, a sycamore
Moonlight in Vermont

Icy finger-waves
Ski trails on a mountainside
Snowlight in Vermont

Telegraph cables, they sing down the highway
And travel each bend in the road
People who meet in this romantic setting
Are so hypnotized by the lovely...

Ev'ning summer breeze
Warbling of a meadowlark
Moonlight in Vermont

Telegraph cables, how they sing down the highway
And they travel each bend in the road
People who meet in this romantic setting
Are so hypnotized by the lovely...

Ev'ning summer breeze
The warbling of a meadowlark
Moonlight in Vermont
You and I and Moonlight in Vermont

and Moonlight On Vermont - the song she was named after - by Captain Beefheart:

Moonlight on Vermont affected everybody
Even Mrs. Wooten well as little Nitty
Even lifebuoy floatin'
With his lil' pistol showin'
With his lil' pistol Totin'
Well that goes t' show you what uh moon can do
No more bridge from Tuesday t' Friday
Everybodies gone high society
Hope lost his head 'n got off on alligators
Somebodies leavin' peanuts on the curbins
For uh white elephant escaped from zoo with love
Goes t' show what uh moon can do
Moonlight on Vermont
Well it did it for Lifebuoy
And it did it t' you
'n it did it t' zoo
And it can do it for me
And it can do it for you
Moonlight on Vermont
Gimme dat ole time religion
Gimme dat ole time religion
Don't gimme no affliction
Dat ole time religion is good enough for me
An it's good enough for you
Well come out t' show dem
Come out t' show dem
Come out t' show dem
Come out t' show dem
Come out t' show dem
Come out t' show dem
Come out t' show dem
Gimme dat ole time religion
Gimme dat ole time religion
Gimme dat ole time religion
It's good enough for me
Without yer new affliction
Don't need yer new restrictions
Gimme dat ole time religion
It's good enough for me
Moonlight on Vermont
