Aunty Iris Teaches Pam how to Babysit

Pam was feeling a bit poor - it was hard being a young teenager with no money coming in or out... how was she supposed to afford yoggies, and hammocks and things? She thought she'd try to earn some pocket money.
"I know!" cried Pam - "I could babysit! There's money to be had in that"

Pam went to the local nursery - to offer to babysit - but when she got there, she realised she had no idea how to babysit at all - she'd never looked after anyone younger than her before.

Then she saw Aunty Iris, who sometimes worked at the nursery. "I know Aunty Iris can help" she thought, and went to ask her.
Aunty Iris was only too happy to help, and offered to show Pam everything that needed doing that day.

First, you brush the baby's tail, so it doesn't get tangled. It also helps later when we put the nappy and clothes on.

Photobucket
Then you brush her mane so that she looks very pretty - see how soft and shiny it is?  She likes it when we use her special teddybear brush!

Photobucket
Then we take a fresh nappy from its packet and put it on the baby

Photobucket
Make sure the straps are done up nice and snugly. We use re-usable terry cloth nappies, as they are more eco-friendly and much cheaper!

Photobucket
Go upstairs to fetch the baby's clothes from the drawers - see that you remember the shoes as well.

Photobucket
Dress the baby in her best outfit - you want her to look smart when you take her for a stroll in the baby buggy.

Photobucket
Lastly, help her into her shoes, tie the buckles well, and pin her hat on, this will keep the sun out of her eyes and off her head.

Photobucket
Help her climb into her baby buggy

Photobucket
And make sure she's fastened in well too - if she fell out, it would be a terrible accident!

Photobucket
Pam - you can pull the baby buggy for me, I'm getting old - here, I'll strap you into the harness.

Photobucket
Isn't it fun taking the baby for a walk? Don't be too long now, babies soon get tired, and she'll need her feed.

Photobucket
Help her out of her buggy, making sure she doesn't stumble.

Photobucket
Put her in her playpen with some toys - a teddy and a rattle should do - while you prepare her bottle for her. Not too hot or too cold mind - just luke warm.

Photobucket
Put her in her rocker to have her bottle - it's a nice soothing place for her to be, and she loves it!

Photobucket
When her bottle's all finished, you can take her dirty clothes off to be washed. even that smelly nappy!

Photobucket
*phew!* you don't smell very fresh baby! I think you need a bath!

Photobucket
Run a nice warm bath for the baby - make sure it's not too warm - it's easy to burn a baby's sensitive skin. But also - not too cold, as the baby may catch a chill.

Photobucket
Take the baby out of the bath and dry her off well with a towel. This is baby's special towel- it's fluffy and soft and has a heart on!

Photobucket
When she's dry, sprinkle her with baby powder, it'll dry off any damp areas that you missed, and make her smell sweet.

Photobucket
Put her in her pyjamas. This baby has a lovely dinosaur romper suit! Even has a little teddy dinosaur to go with it.

Photobucket
Tuck her into bed!

Photobucket
Rock her off to sleep.

"Do you think you can do that Pam?"

Photobucket
"Of course I can!!!  I've really enjoyed today Aunty Iris - thank you for the lessons, I'm sure I'll be a great babysitter from now on!"
