Most of you know how much this girl meant to me - so you'll understand why I'm devastated... particularly since her mum Dawn was so very special to me too - and how we never managed to breed on from any of Birdie's own children... thank goodness Jon and Kathy had a litter with one of her daughters, and we're so grateful to have 3 wonderful rats from that litter...

Birdie - what can I say? Just the most stunning girl... she was so beautiful, inside and out - she did very well at show, getting 7 stars, and BIS at Cardiff 2008. She got into the challenges on a couple of occasions too. It was her personality that struck with me though. She was the most incredible, licky, friendly, special girl... always there for me, always the first to cuddle if ever I felt bad... she was just one in a million. She was very much the perfect cross between her mum Dawn and her dad Tris.

I can only assume that taking Peen (her sister) away to the vet yesterday, and keeping her out of the cage for treatment must have really upset Bird. She was so close to Peen, and today - she was gone. There was nothing much wrong with her - she seemed frail and more elderly lately (she'd have been 2 in January)... but she was fine, still bouncing around the cage. I feel so awful about this, because maybe we could have avoided it if we'd not separated them off... :*(

I'm going to miss her so much, I just don't even know what to type for an obit... I feel... numb :*(
